Our Story

Roz and Dan opened Nainsook on November 1, 2016. It was Roz’s framer, Carolyn who planted the seed that maybe Roz and Dan would like to take over her framing business because she was moving out of California. They both felt that it was the perfect time in the Village of La Mesa to take the leap and open a custom framing store and art gallery.

Roz and Dan both come from artistic backgrounds. Dan was a commercial printer for 15 years and Roz is an artist, doing award winning paintings in several mediums. Dan’s strong point is creating designs which will really enhance your art and building the frames to completion in the back room. Framing came as second nature to Dan and he really enjoys the attention to detail and watching as the product is created.

Roz loves to help with design when she is at the business. It takes experience with color and design to be able to choose framing materials that will set the art apart and make it shine without overshadowing it. She also oversees the marketing and accounting for the business.

Wendy’s background in art encompasses Graphic Design, Art History and Color Theory. Her love for creating her own drawings and paintings has enhanced her knowledge of how to not only protect and preserve your valuables through design but also how to construct a frame that suits your artwork. Her career began during the spring of 2002 working at Michael’s Arts & Crafts as a Design Consultant and framer in Naples, Florida. She continued her career in Phoenix, Arizona and the Southern California coast. She has eighteen years of design and frame experience from classic to post-modern.

Wendy’s philosophy behind her designs are in the details of the story, beginning with the history of the art and how the it wants to be framed. Her love of the frame business has taken her to many different avenues, including design work, hands-on framing, working in wholesale, owning her own business and creating her own frame line, Artastic Burn. Wendy has been mentored by a great many talents in the business. If she can envision the design, she can generally make it happen.
