How Do We Price Custom Framing?

Custom framing prices are based on four main things, all of which help us protect and
beautifully showcase your artwork:

1. Frame (Mounding)
At Nainsook, we frame with only real wood and metal—no shortcuts. Frame prices range from
about $9 to over $52 per linear foot. With more than 2,000 styles to choose from, you can go as
simple as a sleek 1” black frame or as bold as a 5” ornate gold frame—and everything in
between.

2. Glazing (That’s Our Word for Glass!)
Glazing plays a big role in both how your art looks and how well it’s protected. We’ll help you
choose the best option based on where your piece will hang and how long you want it to last:
– Regular glass – No UV protection; best for short-term displays
– Conservation Clear glass – Blocks up to 95% of UV rays but has some reflection and
can break if dropped
– Art Glass – Offers up to 70% UV protection with a beautiful low-glare finish at a lower
price point
– Museum Glass – Our top-of-the-line option; blocks up to 99% of UV rays and is nearly
invisible
– Acrylic (Plexiglass) – Used for large pieces (over 36”) or art displayed in public spaces
for safety
– Museum Acrylic – Same safety benefits as acrylic with the non-reflective look of
museum glass

3. Matting
We use only conservation-grade mats that are acid-free, which helps protect your artwork over
time. These mats keep your art from touching the glass and allow it to “breathe” as humidity
changes. Unlike standard mats from big-box stores, conservation mats won’t cause yellowing or
damage over time.

4. Design & Craftsmanship
Design choices can be simple or highly detailed—single mats, double or triple mats, spacers, or
even custom mounting for three-dimensional or fabric pieces. The time and skill involved in
creating these designs are all part of the custom framing price.

Because there are so many options, pricing can vary quite a bit—even for smaller pieces. The
best way to get an accurate quote is to stop by for a complimentary consultation during
business hours. Our designers are always happy to help you find the perfect solution for your
art!
